In this last Sunday's (3-16-97) comics in the Sherman's Bay strip, Sherman
and his blue buddy meet the ghost pirate Pierre LeFort who has been dead
for 247 years. Comics seem to use 47 extesnively. I saw it 3 times one
month in the comics.

And, in honor, or memorial, of St. Patrick's day, this is the 150th
anniversery of "Black '47", the worst year of the potato famine in Ireland.

In the newsgroup "alt.sex" there are 47 groups which pertain to the
"discussion" of sex.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the only Canadian TV
station currently never to have aired post-TOS Star Trek episodes (ie
